The watercolor illustrations for Something Happened are by Phyllis Childers. "I was truly inspired by Cathy’s story and by the need for such a picture book for families who are grieving. The illustrations, themselves tell the story of this little boy’s excitement of having a baby in the family, followed by the emotional changes he experiences after the death of his baby sister."
Phyllis has worked as an artist, an art teacher and an art therapist for 25 years. She currently works in her studio in Gaithersburg, Maryland, as an artist, illustrator and sculptor. She also teaches private students, specializing in drawing, watercolor and hand-built ceramics.
While teaching in the public school system of Montgomery County, Maryland, Phyllis was the 1993 Middle School winner of "Imprint on the World," an international contest for block print curricula and was featured in School Arts, The Art Education Magazine, in February 1994.
Phyllis worked for four years on the Tito Gaona Circus Camp Staff as teacher of circus art and clowning. Phyllis’ paintings and sculptures have been displayed and sold locally through numerous art shows.
Phyllis has a B.S. in Art Education from Indiana University, and an M.A. in Art Therapy from Lindenwood IV, Lindenwood College, MO.
